Left With Pictures began in stratford-upon-avon in 1999 when stuart barter began recording the song "big slice of nothing" on a korg 8-track in his bedroom. Stuart was joined by markland starkie and together they finished the album "left with pictures".
a further two records followed, "disco music", possibly the most large-scale album ever made in a bedroom (we're talking string arrangements, choirs, live drums etc,!) and the more fragile, "anti-romance" mini album.
Now relocated in london, joined by toby knowles and the great rob wicks, older, wiser, and with a huge sack of songs, tambourines, penny whistles, guitars, shakers, and keyboards, they're back and ready to go.
Left With Pictures' philosophy in recording and live performance is that everything at your disposal can and should be used to make music. Equally beautiful things can be achieved with a jaws harp, a swannee whistle and a violin as with guitar and drums, and they're more than prepared to be using all or none of the above to make music. Left With Pictures is a band, in that there are certain core members, but if they meet the most amazing banjo player busking on the street, he'll probably be with them playing at the next gig. There are no guidelines.
New record, Left With Pictures "ep" is shaping up to be the most imaginative yet.
