In an age where the term “rock ‘n’ roll” seems summed up by the (ironic) adornment of leopard-skin trousers and a Judas Priest t-shirt, The People’s Revolutionary Choir may have a battle on their hands. But while the hyperbole isn’t really their thing, the PRC have built a reputation as one of the most intense, rewarding and pleasurable experiences available to the live circuit. Proud to wear their influences openly, their music owes a certain amount to their forebearers – the white-hot noise and repetitiveness of Suicide, the dreamy drones and texture of Spacemen 3 and the sheer forcefulness of The Stooges in their prime are three prominent reference points. The PRC have enough respect for the aforementioned that claims of totally originality would be inappropriate. That said, to the outside listener, the band’s music is so life-affirming that anyone claiming them to be unoriginal or retrogressive would be missing the point. Getting the early seal of approval with demos produced by Jim Reid and Ben Lurie of the Jesus And Mary Chain the band looked to record some material to put into the public arena. Now, in tandem with Primal Scream collaborator Brendan Lynch, PRC are poised to step into the fray with their first single release “Elevate” on the Outafocus label in Summer 2005.
