Meet & Greet with Mary Guibert, Jeff Buckley's mother drops into the Betsey Trotwood - 16/12/03
Following
the release of the new Jeff Buckley double live album, Live at Sin-é:
Legacy Edition, Jeff's mother Mary Guibert, with the help of Laurie Trombley,
took over the upstairs at Betsey Trotwood on Tuesday the 16th of December
to meet fans, candidly answer questions and play some of his music. Since
the untimely death of this remarkable artist in 1997, Mary has taken on the
role of guardian of Jeff's estate and has fought long and hard ever since
to keep the memory of her son alive and protect his legacy as an artist. His
only studio album Grace, released in 1994, continues to sell and is
repeatedly included in Best Album polls. Mary overlooks every aspect of Jeff's
posthumous releases, such as Sketches for: My Sweetheart The Drunk
and Mystery White Boy, as well as acting as an advisory on other projects
such as David Browne's biography Dream Brother: The Lives & Music of
Jeff & Tim Buckley, and various documentaries.
Mary delighted in answering every question frankly and honestly, and much fun was had by all. Despite the plethora of speculative articles and opinions that have come out since Jeff's passing, unassuming fans were given a chance to speak to the person who knew him best, and new light was shed on the various issues surrounding his life and death. Mary does an amazing job and continues to display as much energy and enthusiasm about her son and his music as ever. We would all like to thank Mary and Laurie for dropping by and bringing the spirit of Jeffness to the Betsey.
