THE STARTS
The Starts are as English as chips and curry sauce, bank holiday traffic jams, summer holidays somewhere warmer, trains delayed by the wrong leaves, and the last night of the Proms. Their self titled three track demo articulates the frustrations, hopes and loves of 21st century young men in London and Essex. Razor sharp lyrics elaborate on the self-explanatory theme for twisted ska opener "I Can't Afford To Live In The South East". On the second track bassist/singer Paul Offord mourns everyman and woman's "Unremarkable Career" to the relentless march of a hangman's drum. "You're Mine" is epic consummation of singer/guitarist Thom Pounds’ undeniable love for another. Completed by Dan Dare (drums) and Rob West (lead guitar), The Starts have already penned dozens of songs that sit comfortably with anything by heroes Dury/Jankel, Tilbrook/Difford, Lennon/McCartney,
Lane/Marriott, Jones/Strummer, Davies, and Townshend. They are four front men born to storm the charts and carry the torch for artful English rock and roll. Music is all they were made for. This is just the beginning.
