THE TREND
The Trend make music with ambition. Maybe it's the planet-sized hooks that give it away. Or the irrepressibly dynamic melodies. Perhaps it's the beat. Too many bands forget about the beat. Whatever. The band's recent development from school boys to chart heroes in waiting has been exciting to watch. They have made their mark in Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow and everywhere else that they've performed and received radio play. In 2005, The Trend's live show has been restructured to reflect the development in their songwriting. The band have defined their own identity, and although the new material is built on the same, well-grounded foundations of engaging lyricism and intelligent musicianship, the song-writing has stepped up a gear. If once you could hear the crowd whispering enthusiastically about potential, today you're more likely to hear them chattering about the artists who have fulfilled theirs - and the fact that the competition has arrived. This will be the last show of The Trend's season in London. They're soon to be holed up in the studio to record three new songs.
