 Psychometric Laboratory for Health Sciences

Measuring outcome in health care requires the same attention to detail, and the same quality of science as other aspects of medical care. The Psychometric Laboratory, based at the University of Leeds in the UK, provides a range of support services, including teaching, consultancy and contract work to promote such quality.

Our Mission

bulletTo ensure that health care providers, researchers and others concerned with measuring the outcome of health interventions have the skills to develop appropriate measures, or can understand and judge the quality of applications using the latest scientific approaches to measurement.
bulletTo develop approaches and skills  in the assessment of undergraduate education programmes, including undergraduate medical education.

Laboratory Profile

Based within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds in the UK, the Laboratory is staffed by academics, both from Leeds and, through visiting academics,  from overseas.

The Director of the Laboratory is Professor Alan Tennant BA, PhD. An epidemiologist and health service researcher, he is concerned with the practical application of Rasch models for measurement within the health care setting.

Visiting Professor to the Laboratory is Professor David Andrich  BSc, MEd, PhD, FASSA, Department of Education, University of  Western Australia.
