Greater Glasgow PTE AV8 (MGE 183P)

1975 Volvo Ailsa B55-10, Alexander H44/35F

In late 1975 the PTE placed in service a further 15 Alexander bodied Ailsas. These were unusual in having rounded rather than peaked roof domes and, like the first three buses, had panoramic windows. AV8 lasted in service until 1993 and was bought by Bell, Newtonards in Northern Ireland the following year. It later operated for Black Prince, Morley - an acclaimed Ailsa operator, and was acquired by the 4738 Preservation Group, Birmingham in 1996. In 2001 it arrived back in Glasgow for continued preservation. It was refurbished and repainted into the 1950's style of GCT livery for the new Glasgow City Tour service, but was never used.
