Four boats from the club enjoyed the sun and beautiful weather to expend some energy in taking part in the 2008 Great River Race. Read the stories and access the photo gallery here:

Saturday 5th July 2008 - Langstone Cutters 10th Anniversary Celebrations

A windy, cool day caused the Round Hayling race to be redirected inside the harbour.... read the full details here.

Sunday 6th April 2008 - Annual Blessing of the BoatsPicture 077_edited-1-2

At the start of every season the Langstone cutters are blessed by the local clergy and launched to begin the season. This year the people participating in the London2Paris Rowing race were unable to join due to a training commitment in Ramsgate. That aside and good number of club members turned out on a cold Snowy day (see photo gallery for proof). The Langstone Cutters combined this years blessing of the boats with the presentation of last years Great River Race fund raising collection to a representative of the St Richard’s hospital Cancer Day Unit Appeal representative . Take a look in the photo Gallery for pictures taken by club members.

Wednesday 23rd March 2008 - Easter Egg Hunt

A very cold, windy and occasionally wet Easter Sunday dawned. Our annual Easter Egg row over to Hayling Island, took place with three boats loaded with rowers and children. A hearty row across the Langstone Channel landing near to the Northney Marina the youngsters were dispatched to search for Easter eggs hidden among the bushes and rocks. Sandcastle buckets were filled and, believe it or not, some eggs eaten.

A good time was had by all and for the row back to Langstone we were blessed with a bit of sunshine, not much but just enough to take the chill off.

Wednesday 5th March 2008 - Sausages, Mash & Shanties!IMG_0193

It’s now March, the evenings are beginning to get lighter, the mornings brighter and more importantly the temperature is climbing! The club rowing season will be starting in a couple of weeks. So what better way to start the 10th year of the Langstone Cutters Rowing Club than with our annual Sausage, Mash and Shanties evening at the Royal Oak.  A good crowd of attended with a varied mix of rowers and guests. The traditional March fare of good solid, flavoursome sausages and mash were served by the pub all washed down with whatever was your favourite tipple. The around 9pm the shanty men arrived, large in life and larger in voice. They regaled us with sea songs from around the world and managed to get the whole pub to join in. They even managed to perform the song of the Langstone Cutters Rowing club and included a new verse for the London2Paris rowing team : see their performance on this video clip.

A number of “incriminating” photos were taken and they can be viewed in the Photo gallery

A great start to 2008.
