Welcome to the web site of the Langstone Cutters Rowing Club
The Langstone Cutters Rowing Club was established in the Royal Oak Public house in the autumn of 1998.
The club's objectives are:
- To provide a focus for healthy sociable activity for those living in and around Langstone.
- To encourage and promote enjoyment of rowing in traditional style boats
- To help awareness and appreciation of the harbours and environment we live in.
- To foster seamanship within the membership.
The club has two 22ft Clayton Skiffs: Gladys and Mabel, moored close to the Royal Oak Pub at Langstone. They are crewed by a cox and two or four oarsmen and can carry a passenger.
In 2001 the club acquired two 18ft Tefi Skiffs: Millie and Lotty, thanks to a Millennium Lottery grant. These are smaller lighter boats that can easily be used by juniors and between one and four people.
2008 is the club's tenth year of fun and competitive rowing. Visit the Rowing Diary page to see what social and rowing events are planned for 2008. Dates and events are subject to change if weather conditions are unsuitable.
We are a friendly bunch and over 80% of our members had not rowed before joining the club. Come along any Sunday at high tide and have a chat and try.
The Langstone Cutters have been very successful in the annual Great River Race. A race in London from Richmond to Greenwich; 22 miles of rowing against 200 other boats. The club has won 11 trophies since we started:-
- Fastest Ladies
- Clayton Skiff Class
- Veterans (x3)
- Thames Skiff (x3)
- SuperVets (x3) - including 2007
In 2008 a team of 10 rowers and 2 support crew entered and won the first ever London2Paris Rowing Race. It was a fantastic adventure demonstrating the great team spirit within the club.
