THINGS TO DO
There are many sporting activities and country pursuits that attract people to Scotland, and to Inverness-shire in particular: there are 'Munros' to climb, woodland walks to enjoy, salmon and trout to be fished in local lochs and rivers, golf to be played at nearby courses. Visitors are constantly reminded of Scotlnd's turbulent past in a wealth of castles and historic monuments, including Bonnie Prince Charlies monument at Glenfinnan, the Battlefield of Culloden, nearby Urquhart Castle and the famous Eilean Donan Castle near the Kyle of Lochalsh. We have produced for the exclusive use of our house guests our own booklet 'Scenic Wonders' describing some of the most picturesque routes within easy driving distance of the hotel.
Driving or walking along the glen is sheer pleasure. About five miles along you will be walking beside the calm waters of Dundreggan Loch (Dundreggan means 'the hill of the dragon'). Although the loch is formed by an unobtrusive hydroelectric dam, it is no less lovely for that. In fact by this time you will have passed more than one underground hydroelectric power station and you will not even have noticed, so well hidden are they. All that is to be seen are the wild flowers, the deciduous and pine woodlands and the ever present river Moriston.
