HOLIDAY CLUB
Preparations are getting underway for our ‘Showstoppers’, our Holiday Club in February. The Holiday Club this year is set in a theatre and looks at ‘God’s great plan’ for the world. The club is running during the school mid term holiday in February, Monday 13th to Wednesday 15th from 10.30am to 12 midday.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
Help is required in many different ways to ensure that the club is a success.
1. VOLUNTEER. We are still looking for people to volunteer to be leaders in the club, it doesn’t matter if you can’t do all 3 days just whatever days you can manage. If we don’t get sufficient volunteers it won’t be possible to run the club.
2. COLLECTING ITEMS. We are requiring props to decorate the hall for the children. The hall is going to be transformed into a theatre and we are looking for any theatre props such as old programmes, posters of films or shows and even an Oscar or a Bafta if anyone has one in their cupboard!
One of the days we have a Christmas theme when we focus on the birth of Jesus and if anyone has an old artificial Christmas tree or tree decorations that they are willing to donate it would be very much appreciated.
3. PRAY. Please pray for the club, pray for the children who will come to the club and for the leaders that are working with the children.
Can I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has offered their help and words of support already, it is very much appreciated.
Please speak to either myself, Anne-Louise or Bill Keddie (0141 882 7165) if you require any more information.

GIDEONS INTERNATIONAL
PAISLEY BRANCH
As we look back over the last twelve months, we have so much to thank God for. We have been well supported, both prayerfully and financially, and we thank all in Sherwood Greenlaw who have been part of this. We have been able to purchase 1,493 Scriptures for presentation in the Paisley area. Many School visits have taken place in the last few months and over 650 New Testaments have been given to pupils in our local Secondary Schools.
We have also enjoyed meeting many of our local Church members in Hope Hall, Renfrew Christian Fellowship, Barrhead Evangelical Church, St. Ninian’s, Wallneuk North and Lylesland. We have been very pleased to welcome to our Branch two new Gideons who are young and eager to help in the Ministry.
Steve is looking forward to speaking about the Gideon Work at the Men’s Fellowship on Tuesday 24th January.

JUNIOR CHURCH
Junior Church had a busy couple of months at the end of 2011 with all our festive activities. We were disappointed that we had to cancel our carol singing visit to Nightingale House on the 13th December due to the high winds but we managed a visit to Hanover Court where we were made most welcome. We also had our nativity service on the 18th December in which all our Junior Church children took part along with Quest.
After a couple of weeks off over Christmas, Junior Church started back on the 8th January. This session we are continuing to use SU material and the children are learning about ‘Israel’s kings and how God worked in their lives’.
We were delighted to welcome some new children to Junior Church over the last session and if you think you know someone who might be interested in joining Junior Church or would like more information please let any Junior Church leader know.
Thank you once again for your continued support.

JUNIOR CHURCH APPEAL
The Junior Church supported Women’s Aid for their Christmas appeal. Tthis is a local charity that helps women and children who have suffered domestic violence. The Junior Church collected toiletries, sweets and small gifts for the women and children during November and December and at our Nativity service we were delighted to welcome Angela Sweeney who received the gifts on behalf of the charity.
We had a wonderful response to our appeal and we would like to thank everyone who supported it, Junior Church would especially like to thank the Guild who also helped collect the items.
RAINBOW NEWS
When the session started in September we had a full unit and a long waiting list. However, having recruited four Guides to help us, we were able to clear the waiting list at the start of November and currently have 35 girls on our roll.
We have enjoyed a visit to the fire station where some of the girls were lucky enough to get a ride on a fire engine. In addition we have had a Halloween party and Christmas party where we had a visit from Santa.
The September recruits have made their promise and the November and January starts will be making theirs soon.
Our annual Coffee Morning will be on Saturday the 18th February 2012 from 10am to 12 noon. Tickets priced £2 will be available at Sunday Break or from any of the Rainbows. We hope you will be able to come along and support us. Any donations of baking will be gratefully received.
“THE CHALLENGE TO THE CHURCH”
At the General Assembly of 2011 it was resolved that Presbyteries should instruct their congregations to participate in a National Stewardship Programme, and a summary of the proposals and of the approved methods of tackling the programme was delivered at a Presbytery Stewardship Conference in .
Prior to the conference each congregation was issued with the document “The Challenge to the Church” which was used as the basis for the conference.
Part of “The Challenge to the Church” reads as follows:
“This instruction relates to the Christian giving of money by members and adherents of the Church.
The Council understands a national stewardship programme to be a programme which gives stewardship a regular and ongoing place in the life of every congregation, rather than a “one off” event which has few lasting benefits.”
There are three options given to congregations to implement the plan:
a) Creating and developing a “Stewardship Season” where the giving of time, talent and money are considered separately over a three year period with a month each year being designated as the Stewardship Season.
b) Implementing the Church of Scotland “Giving for Growth” plan.
c) Introducing a plan of our own devising – provided the Presbytery agrees to it.
At a joint meeting of the Kirk Session and Congregational Board on January it was decided to adopt the “Stewardship Season” approach, and a small team was appointed to manage this exercise and begin planning.
This team will report on progress in due course and all members are asked to give the team their prayerful support as they undertake this task on behalf of the congregation.
