Welcome to Hot Stone Massage
A brief history of Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone therapy has been used for over 2,000 years. Native American women
used to place a warmed stone on their belly during menses. Roman baths involved
hot water and tables of hot and cold stones to lie on. Pilgrims would put a hot
stone at the end of their bed to warm their feet. Fasting Japanese priests would
wear a sash in which 3 warm stones were placed to help to slow down their
digestive process. Ancient Chinese, Egyptians and American Indians used stones
for healing.
Hot stone therapy is an exciting massage treatment sweeping the country. Basalt
stones are heated and applied to the body in totally unique, and super relaxing
ways.
Harmonizing, restoring and rejuvenating the body at its deepest level.
Hot stone therapy goes beyond the physical experience of typical massage and
enters deeper dimensions of relaxation, health and well-being. Physically the
circulation and metabolism are stimulated; mentally the client reaches a state
of deep relaxation and spiritually is balanced whilst healing takes place. Hot
stone therapy combines traditional massage with the use of smooth, heated basalt
stones, which are applied to the body as an extension of the therapist's hands.
The massage is 10 times more effective than a normal massage. The warmth of
these heated stones penetrates muscles and balances the nervous system like no
other treatment.
The stones are heated in a special heater which maintains the correct
temperature throughout the Treatment.

Will I have to undress?
For a full body massage you will need to remove all clothes except your pants.
This is done privately, you will lie face down on the couch with a towel over
you. Your modesty is a priority.
What happens during a treatment?
Initially I will talk to you about your lifestyle, diet and medical history.
This session will last just under 2 hours, subsequent sessions will last about
1.5 hours. Such information is confidential.
I will talk through with you the conditions I will treat and then advise you on
which oils I will use.
A blend of oils is made up especially for you, according to your likes and
requirements for use with the stones. The heat from the stones can penetrate the
tissue layers up to and over 1.5 inches and is carried down to the deepest
layers of the blood. This is known as conduction which brings about local
physiological and systemic changes to the body. The longer the application of
warm stones on the body, the deeper the penetration to muscle tissue and joints,
increasing the metabolism by 10% to 15%. The smooth rounded hot stones of
varying sizes are placed around, under and on top of the body, from the forehead
to between the toes, giving a deep massage, creating a sensation of warmth and
comfort. They retain their heat on the body for as long as possible and can also
be used in conjunction with other therapies eg. aromatherapy, reflexology and
facial massage.
