Worship

St.Mary’s is firmly in the classical Anglican tradition of worship. Music plays an important part in our worship and is led by our Director of Music, Peter Miller and the choir of men and boys.

The church incorporates a loop system which is designed to assist a person with a hearing aid to hear more clearly by switching their hearing aid to the T position. Large print Service Sheets are also available.

On Sundays there are usually four services. They are:

8am Holy Communion. A traditional language celebration using either the Book of Common Prayer (on the first Sunday each month and at major festivals) or Common Worship Order One in traditional language. Usual attendance is about 30 and the service lasts for half an hour.

10am The Parish Eucharist. A modern language service (Order One) with music and an average attendance of about 250. It lasts about 70 minutes and is followed by tea/coffee in the adjacent St Mary's Millennium Centre. On the second Sunday each month (excluding August) the service is an All Age, Family, Service.

12noon Holy Baptism. Held on the 3rd and 4th Sundays each month.

4pm Children's Service. Held on the 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays each month.

6 30pm Evensong.A service of words and music from the Book of Common Prayer lasting about 50 minutes and attended by an average of 20-30 people + Choir and Clergy. An anthem is sung and every three or four weeks the service is fully choral.

On weekdays:

Wednesdays: 10am Holy Communion. The service lasts about 30 minutes and with an average congregation of about 35. Refreshments are served afterwards.

Other services are held occasionally (e.g. for Saints Days) or during Holy Week and these are announced in church on the Sunday bulletin which is handed to all worshippers.
