Support Horizons
Support Horizons is a community owned company working in the social care sector. Initially we are focusing our efforts on the supply of agency staff to support adults with a learning disability. We offer an ethical alternative to existing employment agencies – providing trained and vetted temporary workers for the sector. The company also provides employment opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, both within the business itself and as consultants who are available for help with training, awareness of disability issues , quality auditing and recruitment. As a social enterprise, any surplus profits from the company are re–invested into the community and will not go for private gain.
More about our agency staffing services
The Company
The company was created by a project supported by Wokingham District Council, Wokingham Learning Disability Partnership Board, Norwood Ravenswood and New Support Options. The "Wokingham Social Enterprise Project" set out to create an "ethical agency" and provide employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities. The project was facilitated by a Steering Group composed of members from the supporting organisations, people with learning disabilities, parents and representatives of local self advocacy groups. In April 2006 the project concluded with the registration of Support Horizons as a Community Interest Company and the recruitment of a Managing Director.
The People
Local people with a learning disability make up over half of the companies Board of Directors – making Support Horizons a company run by and for the learning disabled community. Support Horizons would like to encourage anyone with learning disabilities and their relatives and carers to become members of the company and have a say in how it develops. The company will be working closely with the Wokingham Learning Disability Partnership Board on the development of further services and projects.
