ALMADENA

The village lies to the north of the EN125 main road (Sagres to Lagos). It is an easy drive from Faro Airport with 90% of the journey being on the A22 Motorway and the roads in Portugal are not congested as UK roads - its like going back to the traffic levels in the UK in the 1960's. The village is quite small (it takes about 5 minutes to walk from the top to the bottom of the village) and it is surrounded by open countryside.

The village IS NOT a 'tourist village' but a working typical 'Portuguese' village with a mix of Portuguese, UK and other European Nationals. Refreshments are available by visiting one (or more) of three Snack Bars, the 'local' bar or the two Restaurants (one with a patio area beside the village square). Local shopping is available by two village shops and a daily market where you can buy fish a local vegetables, some of which were still growing a couple of hours previously. We will provide you with a Map of the village showing all the main features.

Although there is an 'hourly' bus service we would recommend that you Hire a Car. You can then be on the beaches of Luz and Burgau in 5 minutes or in Lagos in 10 - 15 minutes. Also, you can visit the numerous secluded beaches along this part of the Algarve's South and West Coast. Remember that the Algarve is not very large and most popular locations can be reached in 30 to 45 minutes - in fact you can be in Spain in 1.5 hours.
