Connection
Towards the end of 2003, Phil happened
across an advertisement within a Martial Arts magazine for a seminar to be
hosted in Margate, Kent.
The seminar was virtually on his back door step; therefore he made contact with
the organiser who extended an invitation. Phil was not aware at that time how
the seminar would alter his path within Karate.
The seminar was taught by sensei Snewin; many years before, Phil had been
in contact with Sensei Snewin regarding the UKASKO instructors training
program. At that time Sensei Snewin was also a senior Instructor within UKASKO
and was responsible for the instructor training program.
The seminar was based around a version of Pinan Yon as taught by Sensei Snewin
within the Kamaishin Ryu Karate Do Association. A great deal of emphasis was
placed on the Bunkai of the Kata. This approach really resonated with Phil, so
at the end of the seminar Sensei Snewin and Phil discussed all
things Karate.
At which point Sensei Snewin extended an invitation for Phil to attend the Kamishin
Ryu instructor seminar in Birmingham.
Phil jumped at this opportunity, and came away from the seminar realising he needed
much guidance to take his Karate forward.
Sensei Snewin was kind enough to accept Phil as a student, and has also given
permission for Phil to teach Kamishin Ryu in Whitstable.
