Therefore Kamishin Ryu can be translated as the "School of the Divine Heart" or "Heart of the Gods Style". It came into being back in the mid 1960's, created by Kameyama Sensei
The system is taught using the classical Japanses approach, while the technical content is very much Okinawan the higher up the system a student progresses. The mudansha syllabus is focused around the more linear techniques of Shuri-te, as the student progresses to the Yudansha syllabus Naha-te techniques are introduced.
Sensei Phil Snewin founded the Eikoku Kamishin Ryu Karate-Do Kyokai in 1984 and has promoted and developed the association since then, to the present where there are branch dojo's around the UK. Whitstable Karate Kai is just one of these branch dojo's, and presently teaches two classes a week.
