Welwyn Parish, located in central Hertfordshire and with a population of approximately 10,000, follows the old Great North Road (now B197), the corresponding motorway (A1M) and the parallel London-York-Edinburgh railway, for a distance of some 2.5 miles. The parish includes the historic Welwyn village, Digswell, Oaklands and Mardley Heath (see photo).
Welwyn Parish Council provides sports pitches, recreation and play areas, public toilets, car parks, a cemetery, allotments, assistance to local organisations and a variety of venues available for public hire. The council also maintains public footpaths, open spaces and churchyards and monitors and make recommendations on planning applications, greenbelt and other important local issues.
