Second Nature Life Support is a not-for-profit UK company and Registered Charity that provides Nature Therapy support and enabling to assist in well-being and healthcare improvements.
Our Objectives are: to provide support for the disabled, elderly, or those in need – either as an individual, group, organisation, charity, or specific new community project.
Our Aims are: to provide Outreach support and activities to empower and enhance peoples opportunities in life, bringing about “positivity” and “can do” attitudes, and to fund or provide resources to worthy projects and causes.
The Charity started in 2003, and began to lead the way in demonstrating the physical and mental benefits of what we began to call “nature therapy” and by the bringing together of people to empower communities and support groups. The use of plant extracts and herbal remedies have been well known over the centuries, but have gained new medical appeal as recent discoveries from yew trees for cancer drugs, rhubarb extracts for digestive diseases, and compounds from St John’s Wart for Parkinson’s have given advancement in patient treatment and care.
Looking for a guest speaker or someone to come and talk to your group? Then give us a call - we would be delighted to come and share our story.
Second Nature Life Support have worked with leading UK universities, companies, and health organisation to evaluate, investigate, and develop new ideas and research on how nature therapy can directly and indirectly help improve physical and mental health, and bring people of all backgrounds and abilities together.
We are also working with community and support groups to demonstrate that participation by individuals in nature therapy activities has a very positive impact on personal recovery, social inclusion, and general well being. Positive thinking and “can do” attitudes changes lives for the good.
Our first project was a pioneering pilot scheme, untried in the UK, with an eco/environmental and community concept - Winthrop Park was created from a former derelict Sewage Treatment Works to provide Nature Therapy through sensory gardens for the disabled and elderly. This project quickly gained a positive reputation and is now a blue print of success for other sites and organisations around the world to be inspired and ripple out new facilities through our Outreach work. You can see what we did by visiting our YouTube video. On 25th January 2016 Winthrop Park was transferred over to Wickersley Parish Council, and the Charity donated to them all the equipment and facilities on site so that it remains an asset for the local community to enjoy for the long term
As we empowered and enabled more people and projects, so we began to be recognised with prestigious Awards for our team work and hard work . These have included: Queens Award for Voluntary Service, Nature Save Trust Award, EcoMIND, Nationwide Community Project of the Year, Village Ventures Award, BTCV People’s Places Award, etc.
Our Outreach support is being provided further and further away from our humble starting location in 2003 - with projects enabled throughout South Yorkshire, various UK sites, and as far away as Australia and the USA.
