The Skills Chart section of the RIAS directory contains seven categories of skills. Within these categories Wylie Shanks claims expertise under the following headings.

Conservation and Restoration
The Practice has considerable track record of refurbishing and restoring Listed buildings and those within Conservation Areas. In some cases it has also been involved in conservation of Listed buildings designed by the practice soon after it was founded in 1912, with some Listings as recently as the 1960`s. The senior partner and Consultant are RIAS Accredited Pratitioners in Conservation Architecture.

For details of our projects refer to the Historic Buildings section of `Experience. These include common repairs to multiple ownership properties under grant aid from Historic Scotland or District Council, as well as Grade A Listed building renovation, conversion to new use, and eradication of timber rot and asbestos.

Appropriate additions of new fabric, conservation of existing features, and sensitive installation of mood and flood lighting are included in many of our projects.

The survey and repair of Social Housing for Co-operatives and Housing Associations has been Rob Campbell`s expertise for many years, and more detail is included under our Residential section.

Legal Problems:  Building Failures
Iain MacLaren is a Fellow of the Incorporation and is registered with the R.I.A.S. for expert opinion and mediation. His expertise is in contract administration, professional responsibilities and building failure diagnosis.

Our Consultant, Robert Campbell, is a Fellow of the R.I.A.S and a qualified Arbiter, mediator and adjudicator. He is also registered with RIAS as an expert witness.

Feasibility Studies

The practice has developed skill at carrying through Feasibility Studies at speed, with innovation and accuracy.

Other Services

Our office experience section reflects our substantial office relocation track record, with associated interior design skills.

CDM/Safety Co-ordinator service can be provided in-house on projects on which we also have the architectural commission.

Full design team services, including structural and services engineering, quantity surveying, and landscape architecture, can be provided on a `one-stop shop` basis to suit clients` preferences if required. This service is arranged with some of the many specialist consultancies with which the firm has a close working relationship, and therefore can be tailored to best suit the circumstances.
