On 18th June 2004 the HVSC were awarded Dragon Mark Status, the first club in Blaenau Gwent and, as far as we are aware, also the first in South East Wales Region, to receive this award.
This is a quality award given by Welsh Amateur Swimming association.

HVSC swimmers selected for Regional squad

Congratulations to Rebecca Evans and Jade Williams who have been selected to join the South East Wales Regional Skills squad for 2009/10.

The two swimmers, both 11yrs old, will have the opportunity to attend regional development camps along with top swimmers from other clubs. This is a great opportunity for both girls to learn and train with the best swimmers from across Wales.

Leah selected to swim at Inter-County Championships

14yr Old Leah Durham has been selected to swim  for the South Wales swim squad competing at this years Inter-county championships in October. Leah who is a front and back crawl specialist will travel to Sheffield with the team for the 2 day championships, staying overnight in the team hotel.

Alex achieves Silver medals at ASA National Championships

14yr old Alex Gegory travelled to Sheffield to compete in the 14year old 100m and 200m Breaststroke events in the 2009 ASA National Age Group Championships. The Breaststroke event is one of the toughest to qualify for  with only 9 swimmers  from across the UK, in the 14yr old age group, making it through. Alex once again showed why he is ranked amongst the top Breaststrokers in Wales by taking Silver medals in both events. Well done to Alex..

Amy and Jade are Best Girls

 

Congratulations to 11year old Jade Williams and 9year old Amy Richardson on winning the Best Girl category in their age groups at the 2009 South East Wales Development Meet. Amy and Jade along with 9 of The HVSCs junior swimmers attended the Development meet held in the Regional  Sports Village. Newport. The meet was organised to give younger swimmers the opportunity to take part in an open competition, the first time for many. With a very full programme the competition was extremely busy but all of  the competitors enjoyed themselves achieving many new Personal Best times and making new friends. Newport Xmas Cracker December 2008

 

Congratulations to Tate Jones and Hannah Beetham on winning Best Girl trophies in the 9 and 10year old age groups in this years City of Newport  Xmas Cracker sprint meet.Both girls swam outstandingly to amass enough points to fend off the competition and take the Best Girl Trophies. Well done both..

HVSC swimmers selected to swim for the South Wales squad.

Three HVSC swimmers, David Meredith, Alex Gregory and Harry Davies have been selected

to swim for South Wales in the forthcoming National County Team Championships in Sheffield.

The short course championships to be held on Sunday 19th October will consist of 39 teams from across the UK with South Wales competing in Division 1. Also competing but in Division 2 will be a team from North Wales.

David, Alex and Harry will each compete in one 100m Individual event plus a 4*50m Medley

relay. The age groups for the championships are 12/13yrs, 14/15yrs and 16/17yrs. Good

HVSC swimmers selected for South East Wales Regional Squad

Three HVSC swimmers, Emily Atkinson, Harry Davies and Alexander Gregory have been

selected to join the South East Wales Regional development squad for 2008/2009. The three

swimmers will have the opportunity to attend regional development camps along with top

swimmers from other clubs. They will also have the opportunity to compete for the regional

squad in a meet next year.

We now await the announcement of selections for the South East Wales Skills squad and

hopefully further selection of swimmers from the HVSC.

Silver for Alex at ASA  National Age Group Championship 2008
HVSC's Alexander Gregory delivered an outstanding performance at this years ASA National Championships to win Silver medals in the 13years boys  100m & 200m Breaststoke events.  Also swimming excellently to make the Final in both events was Harry Davies setting 2 new personal best times.

Getting 2 swimmers to the ASA Nationals is a major achievement for a small club and is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of both the swimmers and head coach Phyllis Zagozda.

The HVSC would like to offer a big congratulations to both swimmers and Coach.
