Celtic Tri-Nations February 2009

The HVSC were represented at the Celtic TriNations Championships held in the Welsh National Pool in Swansea.

Apart from the Commonwealth Games, the Celtic Tri Nations is the only event in which Welsh swimmers can compete as a nation, and the event gave all athletes and spectators the opportunity to see some of the best Swimmers from Wales, Ireland and Scotland.

Alex Gregory and Harry Davies also representing  the South East Wales Regional squad were accompanied by Rachel Gillett and Rebecca Evans representing The HVSC. It is perhaps fair to say that preparation going into this event was not as we would have liked with training interrupted by snow and swimmers suffering illness. Nevertheless the fearless four gave it their best effort, knocking up some credible swims.  Alex was as usual, outstanding, displaying his mastery of all strokes in the 400IM to take a well fought for Silver medal in a new Personal Best time of 5:05.79. As expected Alex also delivered superb swims in the 2 Breaststroke events taking Gold in the 200 and Silver in the shorter event again setting 2 new PB's.  Harry still struggling with form gave it his best shot and  whilst the resulting  times were short of his PBs (apart from the 100Free) they were nevertheless quite respectable. Rachel, suffering from illness, and Rebecca also swam very well delivering respectable times in their events although again short of their PBs. Well done  to the four of you.
