Condenser boilers differ
from traditional boilers in that they are designed to capture heat
normally lost through the flue system during the combustion
process.
Last year
changes were made to the Building Regulations, in particular
Regulation L. This section covers Building Services and in
particular “Heating Appliance Efficiency”. These regulations made
it mandatory that only energy saving boilers could now be fitted
from April 2007. A period of grace was extended until July 2007.
The legislation states that ‘…central heating systems utilizing
gas or oil, boiler efficiency should be not less than 86%.....’
This is obviously only a small section of the Regulations but it
means that the old type boilers, such as the Multi Pass, do not
meet this efficiency; some models barely meet 65% efficiency.
Some new
condensing boilers can be up to 92% efficient in comparison with
non condensing types.
This also
means you will be saving money on your fuel bill, in most cases as
much as 30%.
Most
suppliers are now withdrawing all non-condensing boilers and a
time will soon come when parts for non-condensing boilers are no
longer available.
Condensing Boilers also
play a part in the new H.I.P’s packs that have to be compiled when
selling a house. A highly efficient boiler scores much better than
an old type boiler.
Installation of
Energy saving materials are now charged at a reduced rate of 5% Vat.
