Susan Bower, ROI, RBA
Susan was born in Yorkshire in 1953, and was
educated in the sciences at Nottingham, Sussex and Leeds
Universities. However, it was her love of art that prevailed
after the birth of her fourth child, and she became a student
of William Selby. She has been painting professionally for
fifteen years.
Her paintings are often figurative and reveal a world of
experiences and situations translated through a degree of
abstraction. The resulting images are striking in composition
and palette and present an impression of naivety and imagination.
Susan was made a member of the ROI in 1992 and elected to
the RBA in 1998. She has exhibited with all of the major
societies, RA and institutes over the years. She has also
been a part of mixed shows and 2- and 3-man exhibitions around
the country.
Awards include
- the Cuthbert Mill Prize RBA, 1996
- the Le Clese Medal ROI, 1998
- the Alan Gourley memorial award, 2000
