Coaching

Coaching is delivered by a team of volunteer BCU-qualified coaches assisted by other experienced members.

Paddler Development

On a typical Sunday, members will generally be divided into groups of similar ability and each group will either journey along the river or practice specific techniques with a coach. This will be followed by the opportunity to try out different boats and will sometimes conclude with some timed sprints over 500 or 2000 metres. The session begins at 10am and usually finishes by 1pm.

For paddlers who have achieved the required standard, regular sessions with a Competition Coach will also be available to help them develop their skills and speed further.

All paddlers are encouraged to keep an on-going record of their weekly activities and qualifications, and club has prepared suitable log sheets which members can use for this purpose (these can download from the Members' Area).

Lightning Group

The club has an enthusiastic group of youngsters who paddle the special "Lightning" boats designed for under-12s. They take part in the under-10 and under-12 Lightning marathon races which run alongside the Hasler series, in the under-10 and under-12 Lightning, mini-K2 and Rocket K4 sprint races at the Nottingham sprints, and in the under-12 class of the Essex Winter Marathon series. Their activities can be seen in more detail on a companion website at www.bsflightnings.co.uk.
