Help for Family History
Researchers
While most of my work centres
around producing family histories from scratch, I occassionally
take on specific tasks for other researchers.
Online Resources ~
I began researching family history in 1992, when almost all research
involved travelling to archives and going through records by
hand. Now, indexes, catalogues, and an ever-increasing amount
of primary source material are available on the internet. Getting
the best out of these resources requires a good understanding
of the records, as well as skill in finding and using electronic
sources. My background as an information scientist makes me particularly
well-equipped to undertake this kind of research. If you don't
want to spend long hours at a computer screen in the process
of finding your ancestors, or if research on the internet has
left you baffled, I can do the research on your behalf.
Research in Archives ~
The internet still only gives access to a tiny fraction of this
country's genealogical material - much research still involves
visiting archives in person to trawl through original documents
and copies on microfilm. I can undertake research for you in
the archives of central London, which hold a wide variety of
records of national as well as local relevance. I visit several
of these regularly, including:
- Library of the Society of Genealogists,
London ~ link
- Wills/Admons at the Principal
Probate Registry, First Avenue House, Holborn
- London Metropolitan Archives

- Guildhall Library, London ~

- London Family History Centre

- City of Westminster Archives

- British Library, St Pancras

- BL Newspaper Library, Colindale

I am a careful and diligent researcher,
and will send you a complete report of my findings. Where appropriate,
I can take copies or photographs for you of the records I find
(subject to permission from the archive).
Prices ~
My hourly rate is £20 plus expenses. Expenses include such
things as photocopying, document ordering, materials used and
postage, all of which I charge at cost. I no longer charge for
travelling into central London, but research at other locations
may involve travel expenses.
To find out whether I can help
with your particular problem, please don't hesitate to contact
me by phone or email.

~ Testimonials ~
- I needed someone to be my
'eyes' at the London Archives and other places of historic records.
Family Folios have always provided the details I had been searching
for or, if not, then a report would be forthcoming with the reasons
as to the failure to progress any further. I have been very happy
with the results of all my requests to Family Folios.

- Dear Angela, I have been
very happy with the work you have done, it has proved most useful
to me. I found everything clear, well explained and easy to follow.
... Finally, you have been very friendly, approachable and helpful.

- I was impressed with your
depth of knowledge and the way you freely shared the research
options. I was pleased with the way you were able to check and
verify some of my own initial research as well as obtaining additional
information. I was also grateful for the suggestions for ongoing
research. You have rekindled my interest in pursuing my forbears
and I am sure we will talk again, when I get stuck or need some
more help.
