Heirloom Packages
Family Folios heirloom packages
comprise extensive research, an illustrated presentation-quality
report, family tree charts and CD for a single all-inclusive
price. This makes a unique gift for a special occasion, and is
particularly appropriate to celebrate a milestone birthday, a
new baby or a wedding. This style of presentation would particularly
appeal to someone who has been inspired by seeing a program like
the BBC's "Who Do You Think You Are?"
 The
illustrated report will present the personal heritage of
your family in an interesting and readable way, supplemented
with images and contextual background chosen to bring the story
to life.
Each heirloom report is personally
authored and presented in the style of a book, and is quite different
from a computer-generated narrative.
The report will include:
- The history of your family,
fully supported by original source material.
- Relevant illustrations, maps,
bibliography and a name index.
- Many full birth, marriage and
death certificates for key events, with transcriptions.
- Copies of census and other original
material, with transcriptions of the handwritten items.
- Family tree diagrams
- Explanations of the principal
sources used in the research.
At no extra charge, I can scan
and enhance a selection of your old family documents and photos
for inclusion. To complete the story, information about the modern
generations of your family, supplied by you, can also be added
if you wish.
The report will be delivered
in a hardback presentation binder with soft leather effect cover
and acid-free inner leaves. It will be printed on quality paper
stock (meeting the ISO 9706 standard for permanent paper). Traditional
thread-sewn case binding can also be arranged if wished ~ please
ask for details.
As well as the family book, you
will also receive a resource CD, featuring:
- Family tree charts in pdf which
you can print out or email to other relatives.
- Electronic copies of original
documents recorded in the course of the research (subject to
copyright permission).
- High-resolution colour files
of any scans I have made of the photographs or documents you
have provided.
- A GEDCOM file of your family
history data. This can be used to place all the known facts into
almost any commercially-available family history computer program.
Even if you do not have such a program yourself, you may find
it invaluable to send to another genealogist in the future.
Both the Victorian and Regency
heirloom packages include a professionally printed chart.
This banner-size drop-line chart will show the entire family
tree discovered and is supplied in a sturdy tube.
A Family Folios heirloom report
is something that you will be proud to own and show to your family.
Coverage
 There
is a choice of two heirloom packages: the "Victorian"
and the "Regency". In both cases, research begins with
a source person you have selected, born in the early 1900s. Depending
on how old you are, this will normally be one of your parents
or grandparents.
Victorian Package ~ I will research one line of your family
back to an ancestor who was born before Queen Victoria came to
the throne in 1837. While this could be any of your lines, most
clients choose to follow a particular family surname. Alternatively,
you may wish to trace those following a particular profession,
the purely maternal line, or the line who go back furthest in
a particular village. The heirloom report will tell the story
of these individuals and their wider family against the backdrop
of Victorian Britain.
Regency Package ~ I will first aim to find all of the
8 great-grandparents of the source person. You will have the
opportunity to select one line for special attention. I will
then continue the research in more detail, extending your family
history back into the 18th century if possible. While the story
of your selected line will be the focus of the the resulting
report, details of all the direct ancestors found (typically
14+) and dozens of other blood relatives will be included. I
have tried to ensure that this is the most complete package possible.
As well as all the other elements described above, it also features
an "e-Family" disk (a detailed and fully referenced
electronic family tree for you to explore in a standard browser).

fit either of these descriptions, I can tailor a bespoke package
for you.

FAQs
What information do I need
to provide?
You will receive a special welcome pack to help you get started.
This includes a chart and data sheets to help you record the
information you already know, guidance notes and an illustrated
27-page booklet ("Family History Begins at Home").
I will also ask you to send me photocopies of any relevant documents
you may have in the family - the birth or marriage certificate
of a parent or grandparent from the early 1900s is an ideal starting
point. The more information you can give me, the more it will
allow me to concentrate on making new discoveries - but don't
worry if you don't already know very much, as I can start with
very little if necessary.
