  1. Can anyone claim tax back? Yes anybody can claim tax back if, your nationality or residency status has no impact on your claim. It depends entirely on whether or not you have overpaid tax in the financial year.

  3. Is a National Insurance Number necessary to make a claim? No, IRD will assign you a temporary number this can however slow down the progress.What is required to claim tax back: A number of IRD forms need to be completed, we can send a simple questionnaire for you to complete. (i.e. P45s, P60s and SC60s). Register with All tax and we will send the necessary forms to you.

  4. What if I have lost my P45, P60 or SC60? All Tax can contact your employer on your behalf and obtain a Statement of earnings on your behalf.

  5. What is a P45? A P45 is issued by your employer when you leave your job and is an official record of your tax code, gross earnings and tax that you paid under your employer for a financial year. To ensure your rebate is successful you must retain your P45s and submit all of them with your claim.

  6. What is a P60? If you are working for an employer at the end of the financial year on 5 April, you will be issued with a P60 that records your total gross earnings and is proof of the tax you have paid up to the end of that financial year. To ensure your rebate is successful you must retain your P60 and submit it with your claim.

  7. What is an SC60/ CIS Voucher? The construction industry operates a slightly different scheme, CIS vouchers have superseded the old SC60S. A CIS voucher should be issued to you after the 5th of each month, you must keep these vouchers in a safe place as they can not be reissued.

  8. When can I get my tax back? You can claim your tax after either: the end of the financial year (5 April each year), or you have finished work in the UK provided you will not work for the remainder of the financial year

  9. Can I reclaim National Insurance contributions? No national insurance cannot be reclaimed When does the financial year end in the UK The financial year starts 6 April and ends 5 April the following year.

  10. What is emergency tax? When you first start working in the UK the Inland Revenue needs to assess how you should be taxed. This depends on your age, marital status and other personal circumstances. Once the Inland Revenue has assessed your status they issue a tax code to your employer that tells them at what rate to deduct your tax. Until this tax code is issued your employer is forced to deduct tax at the emergency tax code denoted by the letters BR. Tax is then deducted at 2% of your gross income.

  11. How do I stop paying emergency tax? Ask your employer for your tax office reference number and telephone number, then register with us and we can assist you in obtaining the correct code.
