A side of 2nd and 3rd XV Otliensians had an enjoyable practice game against the combined Harrogate sides. Played in quarters the Ensians won one of the four periods against a strong pack and with some talented mid- field backs. The home side set off well and the pre- season ball skill training soon showed when they crossed the line after a super handling move only to see the try disallowed for a double movement at touchdown. Harrogate soon got into their stride and quick handling and some early season tackling gave them a try at the end of the first quarter and they followed this up with another try early in the second quarter. The Ensians were winning some clean lineout ball and after a period of pressure crossed the visitors line only to lose the ball. However John Robinson followed up well from a Will Haynes kick and scored near the posts for Mattie Tenniswood to convert. At the start of quarter three, Andy Bower at no.eight picked up a clearance kick and ran through a confused Harrogate defence to score. This was soon followed by a try wide out from Oliver Richards.
Harrogate scored three tries in the final
quarter but Tenniswood outpaced the defence with a kick and chase from near
his own 22m to score and convert. |
