No 1st team game this week!
Bramley Phoenix 2nd XV 3 pts v Old
Otliensians 2nd XV 68 PTS
In this Merit table game Otliensians continued
their winning ways with a comprehensive win over the Bramley side. With the
pack winning good ball from the lineout via Joe Robinson and Ross Myers
taking several strikes against the head the backs were never short of good
possession . Neil Barlow at stand off was again outstanding in general play
as well as converting nine of the ten tries.
Centre Andy Hayward was first on the score sheet after some 7 mins following
a strike against the head and quick passing in the backs. Wing Darren Cooley
added to his seasons tally finishing off a break by backrow James Kear and
this was soon followed by another backrow try by No. 8 Matt Taylor following
a pickup and drive.Wing Nick Keinhorst scored after a tap penalty and added
a second try following a series of good flowing back moves. Hayward scored
his second try after a break from his own 22m by Kris Keinhorst to give
Otliensians a 3 - 40pts lead at the break.
In the second half Nick Keinhorst completed his hat trick after intercepting
on his own 10m line and this was followed by a try from skipper Brett
Tenniswood after a rolling maul. Darren Cooley scored his second try after
some excellent back play and Tenniswood scored the team's tenth and his
second try after breaks by Hayward and Kear.
This was an excellent team performance.
Otley 4th XV 13 pts v Old Otliensians 3rd
XV 14 pts
After Ripon gave backward early in the
week, Otliensians were fortunate to find the Otley side also looking for a
game. As in the previous week the sides were pretty well matched with the
Ensians probably having the edge in the forwards where captain Alan Garnett
won some good ball in the lineout and Dan Ridgeway and Andy Wood prominent
in the loose but with Otley showing some pace in the backs.
Otliensians were on top in the early stages with some good forward assisted
by Rob Arbuckle at scrum half but failed to breakdown Otley's good defence.
A good break by Rob Grey at stand off should have produced the first score
but lacked support to finish off. Otley began to string some good back moves
together and after 35 mins their centre ran elusively to score from 25 m,
Jamie Chappel converting. Ensians hit back with some good forward play and a
drive from near halfway gave Grey the chance to kick left where wing Daryl
Hamilton gathered to score wide out; Tom Twist adding the points with a good
conversion to bring the visitors level at 7 pts all at the break .
In the second half , Otley soon took the lead with a neat drop goal from
their no 10 and added a penalty after 20 mins putting the Ensians on the
back foot. However , on 25 mind Grey broke and wing forward Rob Lyons was on
han to score and then add the two points to give Otliensians the lead.In the
closing stages Otley attacked strongly but could not find a gap in the
resolute Ensians defence.
On Saturday , the 1st XV are at Hornsea in the League, whilst the 2nd XV
are at Wetherby and the 3rd XV are at home to Nestle Rountrees. The
intention is for the home game to kick off at about 3:30 after the England -
Australia game which will be shown in the Clubhouse.
