Halifax---61 points versus Old Otliensians----29points
The game was played on a well maintained pitch in perfect conditions for
rugby and ‘Ensians started in a great style. After 2 mins following a good
pass from scrum half Rob Lofthouse, Dale Kennedy broke through the Halifax
defence and winger Ali Campbell scored an unconverted try in the corner.
Halifax came back strongly and good defence held them out until a try came
after 12 mins making the score 5 all. Sam Featherstone was competing well
in the lines outs, but Halifax scored a converted try after 20 mins. Lee
O’Donnell, Alan Harker and Richard Crossley were prominent in attack and
defence and when Halifax offended Kristian Keinhorst converted a penalty
goal.
After 35 mins ‘Ensians won a scrum against the head and fine work by Rob
Lofthouse and Sam Grey resulted in a try by Jed Copsey converted by
Kristian Keinhorst giving Ensians a half time lead by 15 points to 12.
In the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half Halifax scored 2 converted tries,
but ‘Ensians fought back and after 15 mins when they again took the ball
against the head Lee O’Donnell scored a try converted by Kristian
Keinhorst to make the score Halifax 26 points Ensians 22 points.
Unfortunately , ’Ensians gradually ran out of steam with the heavier
Halifax pack becoming dominant, allowing their slick backs to take control
scoring 5 more tries, all converted by their on-form kicker. ‘Ensians did
come back with a good consolation try by Ali Campbell after an accurate
cross by Kristian Keinhorst who converted it himself to make a final score
of 61 points to 29 points in favour of Halifax, who will now travel to
Baildon in the next round.
Despite the score ‘Ensians can take heart from their first half display
which must promise better things in the future.

As usual this local Derby was played in a great spirit with Viscounts
taking the lead through a well-worked try after 5 minutes. As the hosts
settled, Matt Tenniswood converted a penalty after some good runs by Steve
Grundy and Dan Ball to make to score 5 – 3 to the visitors at the break.
In the second half, the visitors started strongly and the home defence was
outpaced for a try wide out, extending their lead to 10 – 3 on 55 minutes.
‘Ensians responded with an angled run from lock Ross Nichols who scored
near the posts and Matt Tenniswood’s conversion levelled the scores at 10
– 10 on 60 minutes.
The end-to-end play was even until Viscounts struck a penalty on 69
minutes and then hung on to come out 13 – 10 winners in an entertaining
encounter.
