On a perfect day for rugby ‘Ensians started strongly taking play into the opposition 22 resulting in a penalty goal by Kristian Keinhorst after 4 minutes .Ensians remained in Rodillians 22 for much of the half, Keinhorst scoring a try after 15 minutes converted by himself. The forwards were having the better of the lineouts with young lock Jack Smith and flanker Sam Featherstone prominent. In open play Toby Barltrop and Rob Arbuckle were particularly outstanding.

‘Ensians backs came close to scoring on numerous occasions, but were thwarted by a dropped pass, over-eagerness or last-ditch tackling by Rodillians. However on 38 minutes flanker Lee O’Donnell broke through to score a good try converted by Keinhorst, making a half time score of 17 -0 to ‘Ensians.

The second half continued where the first half left off and Rob Arbuckle scored a great try after a typical barging run, converted by Keinhorst. There were one or two nervy moments when Rodillians set up attacks and made interceptions, but the defence held firm. In the last five minutes Ben Smith scored in the corner after a 15 yard run converted by Keinhorst and in the final minute Keinhorst kicked a penalty to complete a perfect afternoon for him with a 100% record of two penalties, four conversions and one try, making a final score of 34—nil to Ensians.

 

Old Rishworthians 12 pts vs OORUFC 2ndXV 24 pts

‘Ensians 2nd XV produced a top class performance in a 24 – 12 victory against Old Rishworthians “A” at Halifax with tries from Steve Grundy, Alan Garnett and Brad Waite. Matt Tenniswood converted all three and kicked a penalty.
