10th March 2003
Dear Club Members,

As promised , we are please to announce that we are currently arranging IDTA medal tests and Professional Status Examinations to take place on Saturday June 5th 2004.
The Awards Presentation Social Evening is booked for Saturday 26th June
The IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association Ltd) is a well-established and prestigious organisation and is also a member of the British Dance Council.
These medals are intended to be a light hearted challenge but 'for fun'. The Bronze and Silver medal tests involve simple dances being performed, i.e. for Bronze 'Cowboy Strut,' 'Maverick Shuffle' or 'Country Walking' ( an easy funky choice could be 'Upside Down' or 'You're So Good'. For Silver 'Coasting', 'Just a Memory', 'Enchantment' or an easier funky dance like 'Cool Whip' or 'Anybody Wanna' would be an appropriate choice.( loads more to choose from) Gold choices could be 'Shakatak', 'Pot of Gold', 'Midnight Waltz', 'Have Fun Go Mad', 'Black Betty' etc.

For Bronze two dances need to be performed and for Silver three. Four for Gold up. The first medals are the initial rungs on a ladder which can lead individuals to finally obtaining an International Supreme Certificate over a period of time. Both Bronze and Silver medals can be taken at the same time, however from Gold onwards only one medal test can be taken at an examination session. You will know a few weeks before the date the approximate time of your medal tests.

Each dance will be chosen by you with help from the Caroliner team, prior to the test date and will be practised until each dancer is happy that they know the routine and are dancing to the best of their ability. A maximum of eight dancers on the floor at one time is allowed, however if you select a dance which only you wish to dance, don't worry as one of the team will dance with you so you won't be on your own! The main thing is to choose dances that are correctly levelled for the medal, that suit you .. and you enjoy dancing and feel confident with !
Although the medal tests are there for your enjoyment you will feel good about your performance if you have prepared yourself properly. ( See note below *)

Please Note * Once you have committed to medal entry please ensure that you do come to classes regularly to practice your work and prepare thoroughly for the day.
Gold level (and above) candidates will need to attend classes at least twice weekly to reach your 'personal best'.

The examiner will be assessing your overall presentation and ability to show enjoyment in dancing (in other words smiling!) with clarity of footwork, rhythmical interpretation and confidence being taken into consideration throughout the test(s). Obviously the higher grades of medals will require more skill in presentation, dance quality and technical standard.

The awards achievable for each medal test taken are Pass, Commended, Highly Commended and Blue Ribbon. You receive a certificate, medal and report sheet for each test passed, which will be presented at the Awards Evening Sat June 26th (tickets avail)
After reading this, we have hopefully answered most of your initial questions regarding the medal tests, however if you have any other questions PLEASE do ask and we will answer them!
