The chief advantage of gunmetal is its durability and resistance to corrosion by fresh and sea water but is heavier in weight and more expensive than light alloy. Because light alloy fittings are light in weight they are easily carried and thus ideal where speed of use is paramount. Light alloy fittings can be anodized to give greater protection against corrosion. To enable us to quote and supply to customers' exact requirements any inquiry for landing valves and adapters should specify:-
| Flanged - if so to what table reference | |
| are drill holes required or not | |
| Threaded - if so what type and size of thread | |
| If instantaneous - 2 1/2" male British instantaneous is more usual. |
COUPLINGS are used to connect or couple up fire delivery hoses and include British Instantaneous, threaded, Storz and N & S.
BRANCHPIPES AND NOZZLES are tapered to the nozzle tip to increase water velocity and thus give a longer water throw. They can be jet only or jet/spray.
ADAPTORS can be manufactured to connect together different sizes and types of threads, flanges and fittings. The following show only a small part of the Ardenoak range.
