How many times have your vans been attacked by thieves? How many times have you lost tools and other valuable equipment? The UK is the vehicle-crime capital of Europe and costs British business approximately £152M each year as a result of theft of vehicles and theft from vehicles.

The most common method of gaining access to today's vans is by puncturing a hole just above or below the door handle with a small screwdriver, giving access to the lock-mechanism. This means that thieves can get into your van quickly and quietly. Before you know it, you've lost all your tools, equipment and ability to carry out work! Some vehicles can be broken into silently with a sharp knife!

Theft attacks are not always carried out by organised, experienced thieves either - a good majority are broken into by juveniles who do it merely to "get the buzz" and then sell off your valuable tools for a pittance. The Police and other crime reduction initiatives are helping to reduce the high levels of vehicle crime, but there's a long way to go and its up to you to do all you can to protect your investments.

Alarms, Immobilisers & Steeringwheel Locks - Ineffective??

One of the most interesting sections of the survey report was the Vehicle Security section which looks at which levels of security were fitted to the vehicles at the time of theft. This indicated the effectiveness of the security.

Around 60% of the vehicles in the survey had been fitted with alarms, immobilisers, deadlocks, steeringwheel and gearlever locks. This would suggest that this type of device proved totally ineffective! So in summary, it is extremely important to choose the right security for your valuable vehicle.
