Description:
Arthurell & Kirkland acted from
inception to completion both as architect and builders assistant.
The client was carrying out the work himself and employing sub-contractors
where necessary.
Planning involved the preservation, repair and rebuilding of a magnificent
5 bay 18th century barn using green oak and traditional dowel fixings
to form an indoor leisure complex and ancillary accommodation. The
barn is linked by an underground tunnel to a new house replacing
the existing farmhouse and consisting of basement games rooms and
ground, first and roof space floors.
The
property is within a green belt and extensive consultations took
place with the Local Authority, English Heritage, The Barn Owl Trust,
The Bat Protection Group, The Forestry Group as well as a full archaeological
survey being undertaken due to its proximity to Watling Street.
