Altiplano 14,000ft - alpacas in distance. Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve visitor centre, nw of Arequipa. The reserve varies between 13,000 to 19,000feet of altiplano averaging 14,000feet, covering some 850,000acres or 360,000hectares. The type of desert is called Dry Puna, one of three types of region found on the altiplano. The average rainfall ranges between 7-23 inches or 200-600mm, 65% of which falls between Jan and March, the rainy season. Nightime temperatures range from freezing to -10degC. Daytime temperatures between 2-8degC. |
