The Consultancy

The consultancy was founded in 2007 by five clinicians who have each established a track record for undertaking psychiatric or psychological assessments in respect of legal proceedings involving adults, adolescents and children. This development has evolved out of the Baker & Duncan Family Consultancy that was established in 1991.

It is envisaged that this clinical association of experts will grow to a point where the consultancy will be regarded as a one-stop-shop. The benefits of forming such an association include:-

  1. avoiding the risks of professional isolation in a time when the Courts favour the use of joint instruction of a single expert;

  2. enabling a group of clinicians to act as a peer review group through a process of clinical audit of assessments, reports and using feedback from courts and instructing solicitors to facilitate the raising and sustaining of professional standards;

  3. developing a team approach to the assessment of complex family problems using the complementary skills of clinicians with a range of expertise.
