Using hammer and nails with great care

The Toddler Community caters for the youngest children at Derby Montessori School, accommodating children from 18 months to three years old. We believe that every opportunity and every interaction your child has is a learning experience.

It is our mission to help your child to make the most of these experiences. In our holistic environment your child will weave different stands of learning together in order to become a complete and totally unique person.

The best way to demonstrate this is to show you, and we would love for you to make an appointment to visit our Toddler Community, but in the mean time here is a glimpse of our Toddler Community in action. Below is a photo story showing one child's day in the Toddler Community, called "Oliver's Morning".

Oliver's Morning

After I'd given Mummy a big hug I chose to play with the doll's house. I like to move the tables and chairs around and sit the people on the chairs.

Miss Watson read me a story. I like this story, it's about a dog and a train.

I put my mat out all by myself. This is where I'm going to put my 'work'.

I've chosen a cylinder block. I wonder where this one goes?

I'm doing this puzzle next.

Oops! Not quite right!

Now I've got it!

Today I have chosen the play dough. We made it ourselves a few weeks ago.

Sometimes I squash it into cakes, today I'm cutting it with my knife.

I can play with the dough as long as I like, when I've finished I will put it away, then someone else can have a turn.

I'm going to do craft now. Miss Watson gave me a plate to draw round. That way I can draw a circle all by myself.

It was a very rainy day today. Instead of playing outside we made music instead. Sometimes we played together and sometimes on our own, It made a good sound!

Time for lunch now, these sandwiches are yummy!

It's been a busy morning and it must be time for bed now. I'll just help to get my bed out...

Then I can go to sleep...
