Baytree IT Services consultants have been working with utility companies over a number of years. In recent times we have been involved in a number of projects:

The successful migration of over 3 million customer billing and supply records for a major energy company. This involved data cleansing of more than a million records and mapping of hundreds of data attributes from the legacy systems across to the new system.

The creation of scripts to enable a major cleansing of previously unsupportable meter combinations. This used multiple feeds of data to enable the semi-automatic construction of new metering records allowing the customer to be set up to point of billing. The solution to this long term problem was a hybrid of IT excellence and focussed customer service management,

Testing the system interfaces for a new marketing channel into existing CRM systems. This was a necessarily short duration project which required long working hours to ensure that the new system interfaces would have no detrimental effect on existing business activity. The testing involved the creation and tracking of numerous customer accounts and associated electricity and gas industry flows throughout the registration process. The provably successful testing allowed the customer to put the new channel live with full confidence that business and customers would not be adversely impacted.

As well as this recent experience many of our associates have worked within the utility industry at one point or another. Over the past 10 years our directors or associates have worked for companies such as TXU, GPU-Distibution, Independent Energy, BT, Energis, Yorkshire Electricity, the Environment Agency, National Power.

Our directors have both worked within the energy industry since 1997, being heavily involved in the construction and support of systems introduced as a result of the deregulated market. Understanding the industry flows and the information they contain has been a key part of the work here as is an appreciation for the key business processes. This knowledge is invaluable when dealing with clients in the energy arena as we are able to communicate using the language of the business rather than the language of IT.

Within telecommunications Tony Powers spent 7 years working with BT in the areas of access networks and network management. As a team leader at Ipswich Software Engineering Centre he played a key role in development and deployment of systems for management of BT's transmission network. Over this time domain knowledge in SDH and PDH networking and the support infrastructure to manage these was also gained.

In conclusion we at Baytree IT have amassed many hours of work within the utility industry, either as Baytree IT consultants or as private contractors. Given this domain expertise we are able to understand the issues inherent in the utility business and provide practical, workable solutions. We know from experience that there are problems of a unique nature within the utility industry and we are well placed to help your business resolve them.
