Ride and Learn

We’re trying out something new for adults only. It’s similar to the Pony Day experience  but this is only for adults in small groups of 2 to 5. We’re offering a morning session of about 2 hours, starting at 10am, where you and your friends can ride for an hour and get practical and hands-on experience of tacking-up your horse & choosing the right bit; pre-ride checks including picking-out hooves, grooming techniques. ...and the basics of feeding your horse. Tea, Coffee and biscuits are included in the price.

It’s aimed at beginners and experienced riders and will be available for bookings from Tuesday to Friday outside school-term holidays, as we’ll then be busy running Pony Days.

Pony Days

This is a whole day at the stables, riding and looking after horses and ponies. We hold them every weekday, except Mondays, throughout all school holidays. Keep an eye on the events page for scheduled dates.

Arrive for 10am and finish at 4pm. Bring a packed-lunch

All-day supervision (including lunch time)

There are two hours of riding each day, one of which may be a lesson in

the indoor school and the other a ride out in the woods. “Friday” Pony Days will take part in the show along with the kids on the 4-Day courses. ...including games and rosettes

They will learn how to provide for the ponies basic needs, including grooming, plaiting, tacking-up and tack-cleaning, learning names for the points of the horse (bones, joints, colouring, breeds, etc)

They are an ideal way for kids to spend time with other kids of their own age and interests in riding. ...and developing confidence in handling ponies safely.

4-Day Courses

These are suitable for both experienced junior riders and complete beginners. They run from Tuesday to Friday (inclusive) each week of all the main school holidays. Keep an eye on the events page for scheduled dates.

Arrive for 10am and finish at 4pm. Bring a packed-lunch

All-day supervision (including lunch time)

Each day there is a lesson in the morning and a ride in the afternoon. Novices & beginners ride out in a separate group on the lead-rein.

As with the Pony Days, there are organised lessons in Stable Management and Pony Care. This progresses in detail as the week goes by, and everyone receives a proficiency certificate for the levels of skill learnt.

The British Horse Society (BHS) provides Progressive Riding Certificates, which are a nationally recognised standard of competence in Riding and Pony Management, and only available through BHS approved riding centres, of which Bentley Riding School is one. It is awarded in 5 stages and students work towards their appropriate standard.

On the last day, Friday, of each 4-day event, a show is held in which everyone can take part at their own level and win rosettes

These courses are great fun and, because of the extended time available, students always show greater improvement in their riding ability, horse knowledge and general confidence.
