Welcome to the Birstall and District
Pool League. On behalf of the committee, I would like to wish you a successful
season. Since we began in 1987, we have expanded to six divisions. We organize
a total of 8 knockout competitions every season and we encourage as many
players to enter as possible. The standard of trophies supplied is maintained by
the hard work put in by all committee members who ensure that raffles and
knockout competitions are well run thus encouraging members to enter. All fees
are spread out during the season to enable teams to raise their capital
throughout the season.
Two of the knockout competition are
free entry, namely the Landlord's and the Children’s knockout. The Landlord's
Knockout is organized in memory of Bill Priestly who was the landlord of the
Old Brown Cow in Hightown who joined the league in 1989. The Children’s
knockout competition is organized to encourage youngsters to take up the game
and hopefully become players of the future.
The Singles Knockout is known as the
Marc Hepworth Remembrance Trophy. This is in memory of Marc, whom most of you
knew through playing in the Birstall and District Pool League. Marc won the
competition in 1993, and was an excellent ambassador for the game of Pool.
The Team Knockout is known as the
Alan Taylor Remembrance Trophy. This is in memory of Alan who was the League
chairman and one of the founder members of the Birstall and District Pool
League. The reputation of the league is now second to none in this area and one
of the main reasons for this is down to the hard work and dedication of Alan.
I hope that you all enjoy the season
and if you have any problems or complaints then please do not hesitate to contact
any of the committee members shown above.
Meetings are held
every fortnight at the Central Club in Batley at 8.00 pm. One representative
from each team should be in attendance to pay any league fees due and to
collect the league tables, knockout draws and to keep up to date with any
developments.
Please telephone
the committee should you be unable to attend. To encourage attendance, all
teams who are represented at the meeting when the roll call is done will
receive 1 bonus point towards their league total.
League results
should be phoned in no later than 11.00pm on the Wednesday following the
fixture. This is to enable accurate league tables to be produced for the fortnightly
meetings.
Failure by the
winning team to phone the result in will result in the winning team being
deducted their bonus points.
These measures are
not intended to penalize teams unnecessarily but to try and ensure an accurate
representation of your league position and to keep you informed of all league
activities such as knockouts.
It is in your own
interest to attend the meetings.
New players can be
signed on until halfway through the season and players can be transferred up to
and including the first eight matches. Please try and ensure that you are
covered for players prior to these dates as this rule will be strictly enforced
this season. Only very extreme circumstances will see a relaxation of this
rule.
Please ensure that
all signings on are presented on the correct form and not on the back of a beer
mat. Registration for any competition will not be accepted unless on the
correct form. If yours has been misplaced the forms will be available at each
meeting. It is your responsibility to obtain these and present them on or
before the required date.
A fortnightly draw
is run at each meeting. This costs £2.00 per number, which is included in the
Team Subscriptions, and on average produces a first prize of £50.00 and two
prizes of £25.00.
The funds
generated help to maintain the high quality of trophies which are now
associated with the Birstall and District Pool League.
The league runs a
raffle every season to help generate funds to pay for the trophies. We ask you
to sell tickets for this raffle and only expect each team to sell £50.00, which
is on average about £5.00 per player. We have had some poor response to this in
the past but the quality of the trophies can only be maintained with your help
and support.
Please support
your league, it is in your own interest. The committee dedicates a lot of time
to ensure that the league is successful. Please help us to help you.
The league now has
a web site, which is updated on a weekly basis. All BDPL information can be
found here and because it is updated weekly, results, knockouts etc can be
viewed prior to being issued at a meeting. Any comments you have about the site
would be appreciated. The web site address is as follows.
