Budokan Nationals

The Budokan Nationals took place on Sunday 10th November. Some injuries among the Lancaster crew meant less competition for some of our fighters, but we did have some top class fighting and forms on the day, courtesy of all our internationals, junior and senior. Here are some of the pictures from the day, and here is a link to the results page

BUDOKAN NATIONALS RESULTS

Ryan Allan won the Pee Wee category of the BKA Karate Championships, narrowly beating Harry Pilkington into second place.

140 students joined our Lancaster club in the 1st month of training, welcome

Jonny and Dale won Gold at the fighters Open, and Harry won Bronze, well done!

Congratulations to Ryan Allan, who was the first ever student of the Budokan to be inducted into the Black Belt Club.

The BBC sent a radio reporter to the Dojo to talk to us about our trip to Italy, so Rosie & Jonny had to spar for some soundbites.

...................Team Tsunami on the beach at Massa.....................

This was the sight the competitors were met with when they entered the Spanish Suite of the Winter Gardens; a vast ballroom that looked like the main Plaza in a Spanish Town. A huge table of trophies took centre stage, the three rooms were ready, and the game was soon on!
We had around a dozen World Champions in attendance, and famous names like Robbie Hughes, Daz Ellis, Brendan Mitty,David Baptiste, Brian Nelson, Chris Williams, Richard Allen, Jamie Goulding, Michelle Smethurst and Simone Hopkins graced us with their presence on the mat. Liverpool Freestyle, Shorai, NSKA, Back Alive, and the STA were all well featured in the trophy stakes, and the Team events were dominated by Liverpool Freestyle.
New Training Venue!
School reports.

As of last month, we now offer Budokick and circuit training at FX leisure in Poulton. It's an amazing new gym with top facilities, and our classes are fully booked already!

Thanks to Lynne Payne for the cover while we holidayed in Wales, the FX crew enjoyed the challenge!

Well done to Jonny Campbell, 3 fives in SAT's, Ryan Allan, a superb school report, and Asa Watson, who won an IT award.

Well done to our students at Lancaster University, who have worked hard under Gaz to achieve their brown belts as well as get a degree. Some of them now move on to the real world, but some are doing post grad work and staying on.

Their last grading with us was a hard one, I saw to that!, and I hope they wish to continue their Martial Arts careers in whichever part of the country they decide to rest.

On the right are pictures of the senior and junior grading groups.

June 2002

Reece Lomas and Sam Higgins

Congratulations to Reece Lomas and Sam Higgins, who passed their Dan Grades in Wado at Manchester last month, under Brian Seabright 6th Dan. Reece is preparing for his dan grade in Freestyle next month, while Sam is restng from gradings, having passed three Dan grades in the last eight months (picture taken after dan grade). Sam is also the Budokan Student of the year! He's on the right and also lower left with trophy.

Reece Lomas has excelled himself once again by passing his Dan grade in Freestyle this Sunday, 29th June. He was precise and strong in his forms, and, exceedingly athletic in his power tests, especially on the jump kicks. His Asthma gave him some trouble, but he sparred six rounds of great fighting to end up, including one round against Shirley! Reece now gets to wear a Black belt with Gold stripe to show his expertise in two Martial Arts.

Lynne Payne, seen here showing a great sidekick, has recently qualified to teach Budokick at beginner and intermediate levels. She has worked hard since last year, so well done to her. Watch for her in the Kata sections after July 7th, where her first Kata goes on show at the West Coast Classic
