Lister Hospital - Christmas 2009

Page Added 28th July 2010

It is bad enough for an adult to be in hospital on Christmas day but how much worse would it be for a small child ?  Now imagine waking up on Christmas morning as a patient in a hospital children's ward without any Christmas presents !  It seems difficult to believe but that was the situation for 20 patients in the children's ward of the Lister hospital, Stevenage on Christmas day 2008.

Staff, Martin, Peter and ToysThis Christmas however, thanks to the ingenuity and persistence of our ever resourceful Charity Steward, Brother Martin Twaites, this was not the case.  The children and ward staff were overjoyed when, just days before Christmas, Martin and Worshipful Brother Peter Farrell found the time to visit the ward and deliver a large collection of toys and games.

These toys were all donated by the members and visitors who attended the Goffs Oak Lodge Installation meeting in November and we thank every one of them for responding so well to Martin's request for help.

This picture shows the ward staff, Martin (second right) and Peter (left) with just some of the toys and games.  (If you look closely you will see that the toys are actually stacked on a snooker table !)

Once again Martin has proved that he is a Charity Steward without equal.

Well done Martin for starting this initiative and thank you again to all the Lodge members and guests for their generosity in these tough times.
