Cutting-Edge Bodybuilding Supplements

What do they do?

There are now quite a number of highly useful, powerful supplements available that rely for their effectiveness on details of the body’s chemistry that confuse those who aren’t professional nutritionists and/or biochemists – and even some of those that are! This page is intended to help you through the choice of which of these supplements to use.

I will say at the outset that these supplements are best used in conjunction with a diet and supplement regime that gives you the basics first. If the basics aren’t right (enough protein and carbohydrates, enough vitamins and minerals in the right forms, proper training) then all the weird-and-wonderful stuff in the world won’t help you progress in your sport.

NO Boosters (Nitric Oxide)

Nitric oxide is not found as it is in supplements. For one thing, it is a gas! It dilates blood vessels, giving a powerful “pump” and improving circulation, thus improving nutrient delivery to the tissues for energy and growth. Produced by: L-citrulline and/or L-arginine.

Cordyceps CS-4

Improves cellular energy production, immune function and usage of oxygen, decreases cholesterol, increases antioxidants.

Zinc Matrix and ZMA

This is a specialised formula designed to improve production of anabolic (growth) hormones in the body. Zinc Matrix was recently upgraded to include boron for bone health.

Malic Acid/Malates

Improves energy production in the body, decreases lactic acid production in muscles during heavy exercise, thus lessening muscle “burn”. Works because it’s involved in the Krebs cycle, the main fundamental energy-producing cycle in the body.

Arginine alpha-ketoglutarate

Stimulates production of growth hormone and increases protein synthesis in the body. Much better than either component alone, because better absorbed.

L-Carnosine

Reduces the damage done to muscles at a cellular level during exercise, thus helping recovery. Also very good for general health and as an anti-ageing supplement. More info available if you want it.

Taurine

Improves transport of nutrients into the cells, particularly fat into the heart, thus improving growth and endurance and reducing blood fat levels.

Trimethyl glycine (TMG)

Improves concentration by stimulating brain metabolism; also very strongly protective against various forms of damage to the muscles and circulation by getting rid of homocysteine in the blood.

Bioperine

Improves digestion and absorption of all foods and nutrients, including all the other things on this page!
