CLA – For Slimming and Cellulite

CLA is an exciting new supplement from America that promises to help attain dieter’s heaven – losing fat and cellulite without dieting.

Several studies carried out on this substance have shown that, whether you do any exercise or not, CLA increases body heat production, fat burning and muscle growth, at the same time as protecting the body against infections, cancer, heart disease, stress, osteoporosis and inflammatory disorders such as arthritis.

Sound incredible? Sure it does. But this has all been proved by properly conducted, double-blind clinical trials, the same sort of experiment used to test the efficacy of new drugs.

The people used in the studies (mostly rather overweight American women) almost all found that, although they didn’t necessarily lose much weight, they lost several inches around their waists and in other places. This obviously means that they were losing fat and gaining muscle at the same time. (Muscle weighs more than fat.) This is a welcome contrast to the usual situation with weight-loss regimes, where muscle is lost as well as fat, with the effect that, once the diet is over, the dieter gains weight even faster, since his or her calorie requirements are lower.

Do most dieters care that much about their weight? Most people diet because they can’t get into their clothes any more. In other words, they want to be thinner.

CLA is a substance that was found by Dr. Michael Pariza at the University of Wisconsin in 1978. It is naturally found in animal fat, particularly free-range beef and dairy fats. When the cattle feed on grass, their digestion converts oils found in grass into CLA.

Unfortunately, as with many, many other foods, “things aren’t what they used to be”. Cattle and other farm animals are now force-fed foods that lead to up to 80% reduction in CLA production – and there just isn’t enough in our diet any more.

Short of eating nothing but free-range, organic beef and butter, the only way to get enough CLA is in a supplement.

Of course, if CLA works without any work on your part, it will work even better if you do a reasonable amount of aerobic exercise as well, but it is not absolutely necessary.

There is now growing evidence that CLA reduces cellulite. It is known that strengthens connective tissue and muscle, so it is probably its strengthening effect on the cell walls (which will prevent them from bulging) which reduces cellulite.
