Serrapeptase: Potent Anti-Inflammatory and Artery Clearer As Seen On “Richard and Judy”

Serrapeptase has been widely used throughout Europe and Asia during the last three decades as an alternative to salicylates and NSAIDs. It is a naturally occurring enzyme, with no inhibitory effects on prostaglandins and no gastrointestinal adverse effects.

It is a protein-digesting enzyme that is isolated from a bacterium found in the intestines of silkworms. It digests away the silkworm’s cocoon, and allows it to escape to become a silkmoth.

It digests all other dead tissue, cysts, arterial plaque and blood clots, and all forms of inflammation. The late German Dr Hans Nieper was a great believer in serrapeptase, and used it to treat arterial blockage. It protects against stroke, and has been reported as being more effective than EDTA chelation therapy in removing arterial plaque. There have been reports of complete clearing of coronary and carotid artery blockages.

Important Note

Only enteric coated serrapeptase tablets have been subject to the impressive research showing excellent results. Capsules (which may not pass the stomach acid) are unlikely to be as effective. (Please note that enteric coated granules in capsules are now available. Recent studies have shown the enteric coated capsules to be not as effective as the tablets, but they can be of great benefit for treating dogs, cats, children and those unable to swallow, as they can be mixed into food or drinks.

Dosage

¨      Treatment of inflammation/pain: 1 tablet three times per day on an empty stomach.

¨      Treatment of arterial blockage: 1 tablet three times daily.

¨      Maximum: up to 10 per day (e.g. acute trauma care)

Good results with the following conditions have also been reported in various studies and also by practitioners’ observations of their patients:

¨       Pain of any kind.

¨       Arthritis, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus.

¨       Headaches and migraines caused by inflammation.

¨       Lungs: emphysema, bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchial asthma, bronchiestasis.

¨       Eye problems from inflammation or blocked veins.

¨       Sinusitis, chronic ear infections, runny nose.

¨       Sports injuries, traumatic swelling, post-operative swelling, non-healing leg ulcers.

¨       Inflammation of any kind, e.g. inflammatory bowel disease, cystitis, fibromyalgia.

¨       Breast engorgement, fibrocystic breast disease, enlarged prostate.

¨       Carpal tunnel syndrome.

Contraindications: None reported (good results have been observed in pregnancy).

Besides reducing inflammation, serrapeptase can directly reduce pain, due to its ability to block the release of pain-inducing amines from inflamed tissues, so in Asia it is used as an alternative to salicylates (such as aspirin) and ibuprofen.

No enzyme preparation used in supplements is ever pure enzyme.

There seems to be a difference among various manufacturers/distributors with regard to how the amount of serrapeptidase (the active enzyme) in these supplements should be listed. Two manufacturers with tablets containing the same amount of active enzyme label them totally differently. One accurately states 10mg, while the other states 200mg, which is the total weight of the tablet. The important thing to note is the enzyme activity, which is legally required to be accurate. The manufacturer stating 10mg of enzyme quotes 25,000 units of activity, while the other states only 20,000 units. Pick the higher figure!

Tablets vs. Capsules

Capsules containing 40,000 units are also available. These contain a powder in which the individual granules are coated, but so thinly that there is some doubt whether the coating is effective. The extra strength is therefore probably destroyed in the stomach before it can enter the bloodstream.
