TEAM ADEL
The Bowmen of Adel are keen for its members to take part in all aspects
of the sport shotting as individuals for fun or competitatively, or as
part of a team. Over the years members taking part in tournaments have
often brought back team trophies but this has not been organised in any
way. This year the committee is pleased to announce that Som de Silva
has been appointed as team manager. Please visit the team page for latest information.
WINTER SHOOTING
The Bowmen of Adel continue to shoot out of doors from October to March
at the side of the cricket field, towards the score board hut. Look out
for details of the frostbite series (usually with mulled wine) and the
indoor postal shoots. All club members take part. There are three
trophies shot for each month- the Icicle (for recurve),the Snowflake
(for compound) and the Iciclette (for Juniors). We need five archers to
make up the recurve team. See calendar page
for details.
When we don't have use of the hall there
is shooting at Quarry
House on Friday evenings from 7pm until 9pm. £3 target
fee.
Shooting at Quarry House will continue until March with a short Xmas
break. Look out for the Halloween Shoot 2nd November and Valentine
shoot. Contact lis.o'carroll@dh.gsi.gov.uk
Don't forget you can take part in the Virtual Archery League
(run by club President David O'Carroll for the last seven years). Its a
competition for individuals- all you have to do is e-mail your best
score each month. Send an e-mail now to the organiser at val@virtualarchery.org.uk
if you want to take part this coming indoor season. There are archers
from all over the country taking part from top tournament standard to
beginners. There will be a league for your abilities. Check out the
website at: www.virtualarchery.org.uk

Etiquette
As we approach the outdoor season (also known as the summer season),
it is worth reminding ourselves about the requirements when shooting
outdoors.
Indoors, the targets are set up ready, and we shoot at set times.
Outdoors
this is different, with people starting at different times, and
shooting
different rounds. So we need to be more considerate to others. In
particular:-
If you need to put up a new boss, please do so when it is convenient
for those already shooting - and ask them first. Don't assume that you
can
shoot at a boss already put up - ask those shooting at it if they mind,
and
don't take offence if they do!
If you
come on to a boss where archers are already shooting, watch out for
their
footmarks and do not crowd their space. Of course, it also helps if you
set
your footmarks so that others can come on to your target if needs be.
If you
use a "spotting scope", and you want to leave it on the line, make sure
there
is still enough space for other archers on the same boss
Collect
your arrows promptly, and don't dawdle at the boss. By all means have a
good
natter but when walking to and from the target, or when waiting to
shoot.
Remember some people want to concentrate on the shooting line so don't
shout
across the field.
If someone is looking for a lost arrow, help them. It speeds
things up for everyone!
On coaching
sessions, remember that coaches or people practising may take more time
to
shoot, or between arrows; on other sessions, remember that members want
to
complete their rounds so don't tarry by the bosses.
Always be considerate to other archers.
Always enjoy your shooting!
