Welcome
Welcome to the St.George Longbow Tournament web site. The 2009 competition was held on Sunday 19th April 2009. The shoot off for the Royal Armouries Arrow was won by Trevor Astley of Adwalton Moor Archers.

2010 Competition

The Custodians are pleased to announce that the Bowmen of Adel have agreed to host the competition again with the Royal Society of St.George at the Morley Rugby Ground, Scatcherd Lane, Morley, West Yorkshire on Sunday 18th April 2010. Sighters at 10.30am

History
The idea for this tournament came from the Leeds branch of the Royal Society of St.George which is dedicated to promoting England and Englishness, especially fair play, good manners, honesty and chivalry. The Bowmen of Adel were asked to organize the tournament as part of a day of events to celebrate St.George’s Day.

The Royal Armouries (based in Leeds)  provided a trophy in the form of a “golden” arrow. All longbow archers from all parts of the United Kingdom and abroad are welcome to take part. The Royal Armouries Arrow is on display in the Tournament Hall of the Royal Armouries in Leeds. Entrance is free

The custodians

The Royal Armouries, mindful of the value of the trophy which they have provided for the contest, has entrusted the arrow to the Bowmen of Adel in West Yorkshire. The following gentlemen have signified agreement to be custodians of the arrow and to organize a contest each year to determine who should hold the arrow for a year or such time as the next contest be held, which ever be the soonest.
David O’Carroll, past President of the Bowmen of Adel.
Lou Radcliffe, being presently a member of  the Royal Society of St.George.
Cedric Abbott, past President and  presently a life member of the Bowmen of Adel.
The custodians are grateful for the expert advice of the following:

David Aikin, being presently a member of the Bowmen of Adel and well experienced in organising longbow tournaments.
Geoffrey Gaunt, being presently a member of the Bowmen of Adel and a person well acquainted with the history of archery in Yorkshire.

It is the duty of the custodians to devise a competition and to organize the contest.

For 2010, it has been determined that archers of the Bowmen of Adel should organize the said competition and that it be hosted by Royal Society of St.George (Leeds) at the Morley Rugby Club’s grounds at Scatcherd Lane, Morley, in West Yorkshire on 18th April 2010.
