Bournemouth Electric (Sunday) Football Club

The club was formed in 1935 and completed in the Bournemouth Football Association league.

Sunday football was introduced to the club in 1975.  The first major honour was the Division Four championship in 1989.  Promotion was gained into the First Division in 1991.

Between 1991 and 1995 the team consolidated its league position but continued winning cup competitions.

However, the 1995/96 season was the start of a lucrative period for winning trophies.  The club was victorious in the Bournemouth Senior Sunday Cup, the Hampshire Senior Sunday Cup and, most importantly, the First Division Championship.

The following year 1996/97 the club won the Championship, the Bournemouth Senior Cup and the Champion’s Cup.

The year after 1997/1998, the Championship, the Bournemouth Senior Cup and the Champion’s Cup were all retained as well as the winning of the Robbins Cup.

The 1998/1999 Season was a lean year for Silverware, although the team finished Runners Up in the League and exited the Cup Competition at the semi final and quarter final stages including the two National Cup Competitions.

The 1999/2000 Season was again a lean year for trophies with the team once again finishing Runners Up in the league and Runners Up in the Senior Cup.

The 2000/2001 Season saw the good times return to some extent with the team winning the Hampshire Senior Cup and the Bournemouth Senior Cup although just failing in the league and finishing in Runners Up position.

The 2001/2002 Season was considered to be a year of seconds in that the team were Runners Up in three competitions the Hampshire Senior Cup the Bournemouth Robbins Cup and the Bournemouth Premier league.

The 2002/2003 Season was an improvement from the year before when the team gained a ‘Cup Double’ by winning the Bournemouth Robbins Cup and the Bournemouth Senior Cup.

Up to this point the credit for the success of the team must go to Dean Mooney assisted by Andrew Excell.

The 2003/2004 Season saw major changes in the management and playing staff, Russell Brown took over as manager ably assisted by Nigel ‘Frankie’ Budden. Their first season in charge saw the team retain the Bournemouth Senior Cup and finish a creditable Runners Up in the Bournemouth Premier League.

The 2004/2005 season was when the Bournemouth Premier League title was emphatically won. The Bankes Cup and the Champions Cup were also won during the season.

The 2005/06 season was one of great success which included retaining the Premiership with a record number of points. At one stage the team were 29 points behind with 11 games remaining. In addition, the Championship trophy and the Robbins Cup were won with exits at the semi final stage in the Senior Cup and the Hampshire Senior Cup.

The 2006/07 season culminated in once again retaining the Premier League title which included the statistic’s of not being beaten and only conceding 8 goals. Winning of the Robbins Cup and the Hampshire Cup was also achieved although exiting at the semi final stage of the Bournemouth Senior Cup and Bankes Cup was disappointing.

The 2007/08 season saw the team win the Robbins Cup and the Bankes Cup, the Premier league was decided on the last game of the season in the last 5 minutes when the team unfortunately lost when a draw would have been good enough to retain it which led to Runners up position.

Back ground tasks have been competently looked after by Bill Philips and Bill Shaw helped by their wives Irene and Cynthia and assisted by Dave Braggington. The tremendous support received from the touchline week after week also adds to an overall team spirit and for this thanks must be extended to Jim and Sarah Crow, John Little, Roy Gater and the ‘yellow army’ of Matt, Julie and Gareth .

The Bournemouth Electric Sunday section continues to benefit from excellent sponsorship deals with Rob the Fish, Steve and Mike Collins Tarmac and Spearmint Rhino, we thank them all for their tremendous support.
